Diane C. Tanner, MSRN, CRNA

I am a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA) at the University of Tennessee Medical Center in Knoxville, TN. I have 27 years of experience at UTMCK. In addition to being a CRNA, my background also Includes critical care nursing, nursing administration and nursing education. As a CRNA at this level one trauma center, I facilitate the development of the anesthesia care plan for every age patient at any degree of acuity level of Illness. In collaboration with the anesthesiologist, I implement the anesthetic plan and adjust as needed to keep patients safe while they are under anesthetic care. As an instructor to the Student Registered Nurse Anesthetists, I enjoy fostering the growth of the anesthesia students. As an instructor I particularly focus on implementation of didactic material within the clinical setting. Specific skills Include making a critical evaluation of the patient's health status and collaborating with the anesthesiologists to form the appropriate anesthetic plan based on the patient and the planned procedure. Further skills include evaluating securing and maintaining the patient’s airway while anesthetized, working regularly with many varieties of airway devices, ventilators, vasoactive medications, sedation, paralytics and invasive monitoring, including placing and maintaining arterial and pulmonary artery catheters.
