Explore rewarding new graduate nursing positions in a place where careers flourish and collaboration thrives.

This is the place
At UT Medical Center, new graduate nurses don’t just thrive. They shine.
We provide a one-year Nurse Resident – Transition to Practice program to facilitate a successful transition from nursing student to professional nursing practice. We aim to facilitate the highest level of professional nursing practice to improve patient outcomes and retain nursing staff.
New nurses receive the education and support necessary to develop clinical knowledge, skills and judgment to become high-performing nurses. The program focuses on leadership, patient outcomes and professional roles. Support is provided by the unit nurse manager, clinical nurse specialist/clinical nurse educator, Nurse Resident - Transition to Practice coordinator, and unit-based nurse preceptors to integrate core content in professional development, leadership at the bedside and patient safety outcomes.
Expert nurses facilitate monthly sessions with emphasis on:
- Critical thinking
- Leadership abilities
- Patient safety
- Individual professional development plan
- Communication skills
- Research-based practice
The nurse resident must participate in all scheduled monthly educational sessions and will complete a capstone quality improvement project over the 12 months.
Under direct supervision of the supporting staff, the nurse resident provides nursing care to assigned patients per the UT Medical Center’s standards of care. He or she is evaluated using the performance expectations associated with the unit-based competency training and nurse residency program. Successful completion of the Nurse Resident – Transition to Practice includes:
- Completion of a competency-based unit-specific orientation
